Christmas Lights In Rancho Cucamonga on Thoroughbred and Sapphire

For nearly 25 years the "people of Thoroughbred Lane" (Near Hillside and Sapphire north of the 210 Freeway) in Rancho Cucamonga have been putting on some of the best Christmas lights displays in the Inland Empire. The light displays are usually on beginning just after Thanksgiving and stay up only until Christmas day. They light up around dark and to keep the neighborhood sane, are usually turned off by 11pm. Police usually setup barricades and control traffic as Christmas approaches so to beat the crowds it's best to come early in the month of December - Don't wait until Christmas Eve or Christmas night!

The light displays are around Thoroughbred near Sapphire. If coming on the 210 Freeway, exit Carnelian and go north (toward the mountains). Come early and expect to sit in a line of cars especially if you come in the days just before Christmas.

The best (secret) place to park is on Vinmar Avenue or Orchard St. Come up Carnelian to Hillside, turn left and head west. Go PAST Sapphire one block and turn left on Vinmar. Follow Vinmar to Orchard and turn left, or go past Orchard and park before Sapphire. You are then a short walk down Sapphire to the lights.

Thanks so much. We're coming to see my parents in Alta Loma and want to take the kids to see some great lights so this is really helpful!!

Thank You...Going this Saturday!!! =)

Are the lights on during the week?

Thank You : )

My family and I go here every year and it is a spectacular display. I look forward to this most every year and it never disappoints. Definitely check it out. You wont regret it. In fact, I am going there tonight. ;)

Does anyone know if they keep the lights up until New Years? We can't go this year until after Christmas!

yes the lights are on until 9pm New Years Day

THANK YOU for finding me my CHRISTMAS CHEER!!!!! It was awsome!!!!

Please stay away. The residents of Alta Loma around Thoroughbred have had enough of being trapped in their homes during the christmas season. Our neigbourhood is gridlocked from sundown to gone 11pm every night. We cannot leave and no-one can visit us. This event makes our holiday season a misery. If you come and line up in your car be prepared to wait for hours and be cursed at and flipped off by other people cutting in line, intent on getting to the lights. Stay home!

Thank You!!!! You could had been a little nice about it!!! Merry Christmas..

well bah humbug to you also stop being a scrooge

No Scrooges here, just tired of it. Find somewhere else for your holiday cheer.

Surely this was all disclosed when you purchased your home?!
Anyway, I have always wondered what happens when a resident needs an ambulance, fire truck, etc or just wants to go grocery shopping after dark. I've been there to see the lights and even though traffic is better managed in the last few years it is still total gridlock ...

when we moved here it was a nice family thing. We loved seeing families come to enjoy the lights. Unfortunately that once wonderful time has been ruined by thugs. We have had knife fights, shootings, theft, vandalism in the last few years. It has gotten so out of control. I dont understand why people are so intent on destroying a good thing. We are not in a position to sale our home at this time so we deal with it the best we can. A little respect for the homeowners and the decent people coming to see the lights would be nice. I have had to clean up dirty diapers, alcohol bottles and trash in bucket loads off of my lawn and driveway. The really sad part is I supply a trash can at the end of my driveway for people to dispose of the trash. ADULTS please set a better example for your children. Teach them respect and how to take pride and keep the streets clean. This is not being a scrooge it frustration over lack of respect.

I live on the non lights side of Jennet. Been here for 6 years now and we can't wait to move because of exactly what you said. It's too bad the city won't shut this down or at least make it rancho residents only.

This was never disclosed at the purchase of home 25 years ago. This time of year is HORRIBLE for residents living in area. Unfortunately, something horrible like a child running across street gets hit or emergency services cannot make it in time, that somebody will listen. The planning meetings are a joke. Every year, I say I am going to pass around a petition and maybe that time is getting near. Something has go to be done.

i totally understand the inconvenience of it all we used to live across the street from the pomona fairgrounds and we also had the problem of gridlock and not being able to get out of our street but as stated before im sure you knew when you purchased the home... i would give my eye teeth to live in an area where most people decorated not just me and a handfull of others. and its only for a few weeks a year deal with it.... happy holidays to everyone

then complain to them for holding the event. if you want people to stop
coming you have to go to the source. what do you expect? posting a comment on a forum can only be seen by so many. just saying.

Hope you have the worst Christmas ever! May your tree light on fire and your home burn to the ground! What a selfish thing to wright...your the dumb ass that chose to live there! Marry Christmas!

That sounds so SELFISH how about coming up with a solution instead of being so NASTY about it. Im sure the children arent coming around to inconvenience you just enjoying the lights. YA SCROOGE

Then why put them up every year,or is it only you with the Problem?

It's an amazing display of Christmas Spirit and the children love it! We are going tonight...Cant Wait!!

And.....for the resident that wants us all to go away, I understand...
I live in Redlands next to the Bowl and every Tuesday and Friday for the whole Summer they block my street, there is NO parking and I cant entertain on Friday nights because my friends have no where to park, but you know what?? I love the Bowl and the free entertainment and community spirit it represents, and I wouldn't change it for the world... I have lived here for 10 years and I have just adapted. I suggest you embrace it and join in the Christmas Spirit too! Much love to you and yours!!

Its not the cars and traffic that are upsetting but the disrespect for our property. Vandalism
has been awful and the fights and trash people leave behind. Drunk adults cussing and fighting is not what we want. It was once a very nice thing to bring your family to the lights but the last few years have gotten so scary not as many people are putting up lights as there once was. Homeowners have had to pay for private security. What a shame .

I agree. People go out of their way to provide an entertainment destination. The least the people could do is be respectful of property and not leave trash behind or allow the children to run amok.

Kind of hard to adapt to being trapped in your home every night for an entire month. The crowds have exploded in size compared to the days of old, and many people visiting the lights demonstrate absolutely no regards for the residents of surrounding neighborhoods. My quiet, residential street now looks like the I-405 at rush hour, plus about 5k pedestrians every night for more than three weeks. Sorry, but nobody who bought a home in the surrounding neighborhoods agreed to have their lives turned on end for an entire month. There's nothing to embrace, it just needs to be reigned in.

I feel sorry for the people that live in the area.. I've seen the people that are there in the last few years and I agree with you - no regard for anything. We stopped going about 2 years ago because it was just too crowed and the demographics were going down every year.

And what do you do if grandma has a heart attack and needs an ambulance or if there is a fire!? the streets are so packed, there is NO WAY anything other than a helicopter is getting in our out of there.

do they keep them up after christmas?

How late do the lights stay on until? I'd love to see them after work but i close late

What's the address so I can

Google the South Pole. Lots of lights there.

We went for the first time last year with our family and we all really enjoyed it. By accident we went the Saturday when all the skits and dancers were there and would love to make it on the weekend they are all there again, could you please send me that info ?

Will there be Xmas lights display this year? My family would like to go there next weekend. How late in the evening do they have the lights on?

YES!!! They put up the lights every year.
They leave them on until around 11pm, but I don't remember exactly.

We tried years ago with daughter but the traffic to get to them was CRAZY. I know have 3 kids (6, 3, 2) and they love when we walk around our neighborhood in Upland but since most of the kids in my area are grown not nearly as many people put up decorations. So I think we might try got to Sapphire tonight if its not raining, I'm hoping if we go as it's getting dark we might get lucky. I have taken the kids during the day to see the decorations with no crowds and it's not as spectacular without the lights of course but it's just as great to see all the wonderful decorations. I can only imagine what it looks like with lights. I appreciate all the work those homeownders put into it and all the smiles it brings to children. I'm sorry that there are those people that cause problems.

Do you know if the lights will be up tonight? Will the crowds start tonight as well?

Has it started already?!

most of the lights are up right after thanksgiving and are most definitely up during the first week of december. they stay up til after christmas, but i wouldnt count on seeing everything at its most decorated state. its fun to drive through but there is usually a flow and people get stupid honking at cars to move along like they came there in a big hurry. so its best to walk. its not too bad if the kids are bundled up. but beware. there are alot of people selling sugary sweets & junk foods. =P so, if you are not going to want to hear the kids screaming for yummy treats, i would drive. hope you have a super fun time, its truly amazing every year!

For those of you that have gone, is this something they do all week or just the weekend? I was thinking if we go during the week we might not get as much traffic?? We didn't make it last weekend due to the rain so hubby and I were hoping to go early next week and surprise the kids. Hubby isn't thrilled with the idea but I can't wait :)

We always go during the week. After seeing the mile-long lines of cars an a Saturday a few years ago, we'll never try again Fri-Sun!

THANKS!! We will give it a try one day next week.

I recently moved to the area and had the opportunity to experience the amazing display of lights last year with my 2 year old daughter and my wife. I never had anything like this where I grew up and found it to be just as exciting for me as it was for my daughter. This instantly became our family tradition and plan on visiting again this year. I would also like to show support for the families that put on this wonderful event and ask that people do a better job of respecting these beautiful homes by not allowing yourselves or others to deface property or litter on peoples lawns. This is a wonderful experience that these people have unselfishly given for all to share, so let's make sure we do our part as visitors to insure this display happens for many years to come.
