The Scariest Place In Alta Loma

The scariest and most haunted house in Alta Loma is just north of Hillside, east of Hermosa Ave. in an area known as 'The Woods' of Alta Loma, only a few streets from the base of the mountain.  This haunted house story is more interesting than your average 'haunted house' story because it's not about some 100 year old home or winery, it's about a fairly new home built in 1989 and everything is verifiable.  These things all happened in the mid to late 1990's and any of the neighbors can confirm the details and the incident was actually reported in the Daily Bulletin newspaper.

The house is on a 1/2 acre horse property with over 150 eucalyptus trees.  Several people have commented that it looks like something out of the movie 'Blair Witch Project' and say it is scary looking at night even if nothing happened there.  The house itself is tutor style and small for the area at only about 2200 sq. feet and 3 bedrooms.  All the other houses in the area are much larger.

The original owner was a contractor and built the home himself, literally with his own hands as a gift to the love of his life whom he had just married a few years before.  They lived happily for a few years and had twin girls that went to Vineyard Jr High down the street at Hermosa and Highland Ave.

The story goes that after being served divorce papers the man grew severely depressed.  When the soon to be ex-wife demanded that he move out of the home that he not only owned, but built himself, he swore on his life that he would never leave.  The next day he waited for his wife and twin daughters to leave for school & work, got his shotgun, went to his favorite sitting area beneath one of the larger eucalyptus trees, put the barrel in his mouth, his toe on the trigger, and blew the better part of his head off.

Upon returning home from school that afternoon the girls became concerned that the back door was open, the TV was on, etc, and went searching for their father.  One girl searched the front of the property, the other, the back of the property.  When the girl found her father's mostly decapitated body in the back yard she began screaming so uncontrollably that the neighbors called the police thinking a crime was occurring.  The girl was so traumatized by finding her father this way that a few weeks later she also killed herself in the house by slitting her wrists in the bathtub.  The mother and other daughter sold the home and moved out shortly after.  The house has had several owners since - not one of them staying any longer than about a year because of the strange happenings inside and outside the home.

Neighbors and locals walking the horse-trail behind the home report seeing the figure of the husband wondering aimlessly at night thru the trees.   You can also hear the screaming of the daughter as the wind blows through the trees at night.  People that have lived in the house have told neighbors that they also hear the screams of the teenage girl and sometimes hear the words "daddy" being whispered when it's quite in the house. When it's windy they also report seeing a shadow figure move through the trees at night.

If you are ever walking through the horse trails above Hillside Avenue and east of Hermosa, look for the yard with a lot of trees and the smallest house in the area.  If you want to see or hear the ghosts, go back at night and you can hear the screams of the girl and might see the father or his shadow wandering the property that he swore he would never leave.

I was born & raised in old alta Loma .... Grew up on an old Citrus ranch just below Wilson ..... I used hunt .... Explore ... Hike ... Ride bicycle ....all in the area on Hillside east of Hermosa .... In those days Hillside was a dirt road heading East from Hermosa .... In high north winds .... The eucalyptus trees/grove made very weird noises ... Way before any new homes were there ... As I recall at the end of hillside ... Dirt road ... About 1/2 mile east of Hermosa ... There was an old chicken ranch .... During the winds ... Especially late afternoons in the late fall that area was always spooky to me .... I would petal my bicycle down Hermosa as fast I could to get home before dark

I used to live in the house in front of the chicken ranch you speak off. I remember the sound of the wind through those trees...eary, but not haunted. I can see why people think they hear voices when the wind blows through those trees. Now the area is developed and I miss the way it use to look... except I don't miss the chicken coop smell!

I am the officer that handled this call at this residence, several years ago. The information provided by Anonymous on 05/24/14 @ 19:13 hrs is correct. I will not provide any further information and the new owner, if there is one, should enforce no trespassing violations to his property.

Wow, I probably know you. I am the one who posted on 5/24/14. @ 19:13 hrs. Thank you for this. I don't think there have been any problems recently. It happened so long ago.

It's all BS.

I live close to there in Rancho Cucamonga. After researching it, the story is mostly false information. In addition, there is no such thing as ghosts. there may be unexplained phenomena but by definition it can't be called a ghost. I am writing some spooky music with some other IE musicians based on the story though..

I know this place. I walked past there about a year ago. Mind you, I never heard about this story of the house but the description matches my remembrance and I'm freaking out a bit because I remember seeing some little girl crying there, I was concerned so I walked up to make sure she was ok but she ran back. I thought maybe something happened, she was alone so I suspected maybe someone was hurt but when I went around, she was gone. I knocked on the door of the house and there was someone in there and just let them know their little girl was crying and I was concerned for her safety...the guy said he didn't have any children. I just brushed it off, apologizing and speculating it was probably one of the neighbors kids and left it at that...this is creepy, I might have interacted with a spirit.

My sister lives on Galloway and I live on Dartmouth. Oddly enough people have passed in both our homes. It's not fun experiencing the random events. Her home is far worse then mine, in terms of freakish accounts. We have lived in the city for 19 yrs now. And I have heard stories from other residents near by who have an unwanted presence aswell. Here is the common factor. Somebody passed away in the Home.

Is it the property with the crazy looking wooden fence and the stair case on the side of the house?

OMG we went last night and waited about 10 mins with our windows rolled down and I let me tell you; I am very skeptical about these kind of things so I wasn't scared but then we heard someone or something walking (like tree branches breaking on the ground), then 3 knocks coming from the property, then a chain linked fence open and shut, then a girl screaming 4 times!! It was not a joke, it was not a recording, it was not a coyote. It was a piercing scream as if this poor soul was re-living the moment over and over when she saw her father dead.
