Rancho Cucamonga Fireworks Show, July 4th 2010

If the city of Rancho Cucamonga is having a July 4th fireworks show in 2010, they sure aren't doing a very good job of promoting it! We assumed that, like the last few years Rancho Cucamonga's July 4 fireworks show would be at Quakes stadium but thus far we can find no info to confirm the show for 2010!

We are pretty sure that Chaffey College is not having a fireworks show and we DO know that the city of Fontana is having their July 4 fireworks show at the Raceway.

What did they do with the monkeys when they shut the Mission drive-in down?

Ah the good old days....work thru the week then take time on Friday Night to check the paper for what was playing at the local drive ins....We had plenty to choose from back then in the 60's and early 70's. But I always wondered...what happened to all of the monkeys they had at the Mission in Montclair.

Now the old Mission was on the corner of Benson and Holt and right down the street you would find the Valley....Or was it the other way around.

Anyway, it was the Mission that had the Monkeys in long cages against the south fence along holt. A lot of people would get in early just so you could go to the snack bar and buy some popcorn or peanuts just to feed the ugly smelly critters...That is one thing I remember about them....If the Santa Ana's were blowing, the smell was almost enough to make you throw up that Pizza you just bought from the snack bar.

BACK HOME IN THE INLAND EMPIRE; THE ANGLES AT QUAKE STADUIM

"Ontario, home of Angels"CRIED THE DAILY REPORT IN 1938....We are talking Baseball here so don't go getting all excited and all...And besides, this was the thinking 60 years ago....Yeah, 60 years.

Well after all those years the angels have indeed made it to the Inland Empire, albeit not quite where people thought they would go and a long road and history making tour of California instead and indeed dropping a lot of rain along the way.

Murder most Foul, Delicious Food fit for a King, Await you at Castle Park in Riverside....

Every day for several years I passed this place along side of the 91 westbound on the south side of Riverside just north of the Corona area, and often wondered what kind of place it was....Then one day I had to deliver some court papers to the office from Ragging Waters in Valencia for signature by management....I had a few minutes to stroll around, and I discovered this Castle Park deserved much more than a causal glance from the 91 freeway.

Castle Park was built back in 1976 much on the same scale as other family styled amusement parks....It started out looking like your standard Bullwinkle's or another children's destination Chuck & Chesses.....But the similarity soon ended....The Owners, who by the way are the same people who own Magic Mountain in Valencia, built Castle Park as the Ultimate Family Entertainment Park in the US....And as Castle Park continued to expand and add new rides, tearing out some of the older ones that did not draw as well, eventually won the park the coveted title, Best Family Attraction in the Inland Empire.

Learning Safe Water Practices The Hard-Way

We spent this last Saturday afternoon at Silverwood Lake. For those of you not famaliair with Silverwood, it's a great place for boating, waterskiiing, jet-skiing fishing, or just a 'day at the beach'. It's close-by, and easy to get to - from interstate 15 (several miles north of Devore) just take the 138-Exit (aka, the McDonalds exit) and follow the road and signs about 10 miles until you reach the lake. From our home in Rancho Cucamonga, it's about a 30 minute drive.

When we arrived at 8:30 Saturday morning the lake was nearly deserted and there wasnt even a line at the boat-launch. We met several friends who had already setup a place on the beach for us, complete with food and SeaDoo's for everyone to ride. As our friend boated us to our spot we were greeted with someone we didn't know riding one of the SeaDoo's into shore, we also noticed we were being followed by a boat. As we beached the boat we were informed that one of our friends who was riding one of the SeaDoo's had "bumped" the SeaDoo into the boat that was following us. Assuming the boat-owner just wanted to trade insurance information at first we didn't think much of it, but a few momenet later when we asked how the driver of the SeaDoo was, we realized the day was about to change.
