Golf tournament brings crowds, dollars to I.E.

RANCHO CUCAMONGA - Golf fans, get out your visors and sunscreen- the Mark Christopher Charity Classic begins today.

The event - which returns Empire Lakes Golf Course for the seventh time in the tournament's 13 years - is expected to draw large crowds to the Inland Empire again.

The Classic is an event on the PGA Nationwide Tour, a satellite or minor-league golf tour, consisting of players hoping to qualify for a spot on the ultimate putting green -the PGA Tour.

While 144 players will take high hopes out to the Arnold Palmer-designed course and fight to win, serious golf nuts to the occasional fan will hopefully be treated to long birdie putts and maybe even a rare hole-in-one.

All proceeds will be donated to local charities, including the Loma Linda University Children's Hospital and Casa Colina.
