Are you ready for the big one?
Submitted by Ghostpainter on Sat, 08/11/2007 - 1:11pm
Big One What?
That, Is what I hear from many residents here in the park....Many residents that live here in the Pines and across the Inland Empire, have always heard about them, but since they have just moved here from out of state, or they are to young to remember the last Big Ones we experienced, they dont really understand the question....Are you ready for the Big One.
Of course, none of us have really experienced a Big One....Oh North Ridge shook us a lot and caused a lot of damage in that area, or the Landers, Big Bear double quakes, caused a lot of structure home damage up on the Northern Desert but still they were not the Big One....What is the big one? Or perhaps the question should be, How big is the big one is supposed to be?
The Wineries of Rancho Cucamonga are back.

If it seems like you have read some of these details before, you have, in my other stories....But they bear repeating because they give you a good reference as to who was involved in what, which personality created the wineries and there involvement with other factions of an era long gone but still present in the works they left behind.....And thanks to on
Pomona Trivia in Movies and Myth
Submitted by Ghostpainter on Tue, 05/08/2007 - 10:37am
I realize that many people do not consider Pomona to be a part of the Inland empire, but Pomona has the Fairplex and the Winter Nationals that affect the entire Inland Empire region....And lets face it...Once you make it over Kellogg Hill, You are not in LA any more Maxine....So here we go.....With some movie trivia.

An I Love Lucy episode featured the main characters of the show "go out to the country" on a day trip to Pomona......This seems abit odd now Consideration Pomona's rapid growth since becoming quite urban, but the episode also shows what the IE looked like before the Mass infusion of People....In 1940, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz spent their honeymoon in downtown Pomona.
Sonny Bono Became Mayor Of Palm Springs.....

Because the City would not allow him to put up a sign on his new Restaurant.
Sony Bono was born in Detroit, Michigan, and began his music career working for the legendary record producer Phil Spector in the early 1960s as a promotion man, percussionist and gofer.....One of his earliest songwriting efforts was "Needles and Pins." Later, with his Main Squeeze X wife Cher, They preformed as Sonny and Cher....Bono wrote, arranged, and produced a number of hit records with singles like "I Got You Babe" and "The Beat Goes On."....Sonny and Cher starred in a popular television variety show, The Sonny and Cher Show, which ran on CBS from 1971 to 1977, where Cher developed her wit and charm and dangerous tongue....Cher received more attention as the musical talent while Sony played the Clown and Baffon.....They divorced in 1975 but continued to do the show for another two seasons until canceled by CBS.....After the series ended, Sony and Cher still got together for the occasional TV show or special appearance on programs like Johnny Carson and later Jay Leno.
The first settlers of the IE....The Spanish IE
Submitted by Ghostpainter on Sat, 04/14/2007 - 10:07am
Were Indians who had lived in the area for hundreds of years....They hunted off the land, fished the numerous small streams coming out of the Mountains and had little contact with any other peoples except for the Northern Desert tribes, who often came down the rough and steep trails of the Cajon Pass to trade....It wasn't until the white man arrived in the valley below did Indian attacks on settlements begin....Inner tribal conflict occurred but not that often according to tribal chiefs.....Not until white men in the form of Spanish Combustors coming into the IE, did the local tribes start to attack.....and that was in reaction to what they considered the stealing of there hunting and fishing grounds.
Europeans first began to have an interest in California and the Inland Empire in the mid 1530s, when Cortez's men ventured into Baja California.....In 1542 the Spanish sailed north into Present day Gulf of California and by some accounts as far north as the Yuma area, which would mean that the low hills south of El Centro did not exist then as they do today.....Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo's expedition north that year made landings as far north as modern Santa Barbara.....From the LA Basin which was populated by over 320,000 Indians, the Spanish explorers moved out over the area and finally into the inner valley regions that make up the Inland Empire, but no efforts were made to make any sort of contact with the Indians of the area....That would not happen for another two hundred years.
Cucamonga in myth and media
Submitted by Ghostpainter on Sun, 04/08/2007 - 11:14am
In the movie Fletch Lives, Fletch , played by actor Chevy Chase, claims to a Ku Klux Klan leader that he is from the "Cucamonga Klan" from California.....Sorry folks, while we might have some weird people walking about I don't recall ever seeing any KKK.
In the movie Next Friday the setting is, and was partly filmed in Rancho Cucamonga.....Neighbors of the home where the movie was being shot, were so nervious about some of the people who were dressed like gang members, that they called the local PD and complained and the shooting was shut down.
A two part episode of Combat was filmed at the Virginia Dare Winery....In one scene, as the Serge is driving through the gate and into freedom from the German Held area, the shot switches to the gate heading towards Foothill, just in time for a Grey Hound Bus to pass by....CUT.
