Mt Baldy Village

Hiking the Devils Backbone & Kratka Ridge;

Mt Baldy

Mount San Antonio, better known to most in the Inland Empire as Old Baldy or Mount Baldy, is the highest peak in the San Gabriel Mountains, and the highest point in Los Angeles County. Mount San Antonio has two summits. The eastern summit is higher at an elevation of 10,064 feet while the west is at 9,988 feet. In winter, Mount Baldy's snow-capped peaks are usually visible on clear days and dominate the view of the Inland Empire skyline....Between the two peaks is the Devils Backbone, a narrow ridge at about 10,000 feet that slopes down at 80 Degrees on either side for several thousand feet.

Buckhorn Lodge & Restaurant In Mt Baldy Village.

I have been going up to the Lodge since I was a kid with my parents, especially for News Years Eve Parties....We have been up there when it was snowing and we have been up there when it was 75 degrees on News Year Eve....But the Outside Temp doesn't affect the party atmosphere that is taking place on the inside.

During the 60's they had ladies night, which was a special party night after 12 midnight, for all women over the age of 18....You must remember that Baldy Village is more than one mile above sea level and back then any woman over the age of 18 could drink....After midnight, the drinks were free for the fairer sex, and no one I knew ever complained....I dont know if that policy still holds or not, it has been nearly 10 years since I was able to make the trip up the hill to partake in party festivities.
