Buckhorn Lodge & Restaurant In Mt Baldy Village.
Submitted by Ghostpainter on Tue, 09/11/2007 - 12:03pm
I have been going up to the Lodge since I was a kid with my parents, especially for News Years Eve Parties....We have been up there when it was snowing and we have been up there when it was 75 degrees on News Year Eve....But the Outside Temp doesn't affect the party atmosphere that is taking place on the inside.
During the 60's they had ladies night, which was a special party night after 12 midnight, for all women over the age of 18....You must remember that Baldy Village is more than one mile above sea level and back then any woman over the age of 18 could drink....After midnight, the drinks were free for the fairer sex, and no one I knew ever complained....I dont know if that policy still holds or not, it has been nearly 10 years since I was able to make the trip up the hill to partake in party festivities.
But the Lodge still exists and if you dont think you can safely drive back down the hill they have small cabins out back for rent, or you can sleep it off in the car.
The Buckhorn is your typical late night bar and grill, serving good but not expensive food.....Hamburgers, cheese burgers and fries make up most of the dinner plates, but you can order a good steak, with baked potatoes and garden salad, and there music at night especially on holidays is live, with several different bands making there trek up the hill to entertain the crowd....Oh, yes, this place gets crowded....Especially on Weekends and News Year Eve.
Mt Baldy village is home to only about 400 people, but I have seen as many as 300 people in this place, especially during warm winter nights.
The Buckhorn Lodge and Restaurant is located just north of the Glendora Canyon Turnoff and almost directly across the street from the US Forestry Service Fire station, on Mt Baldy Road and Mesa Drive....It is also known as San Antonio Canyon Drive.....You can call 909-982-1107 to find out who the live band is and their schedules and closing times, it does vary.
All I can say, if you want a fun night in the Mountains, and only 20 minutes away, good food and good beer the Buckhorn Lodge and Restaurant is the place to go.....Just be careful on the way down because the CHP does patrol all the way down to the Upland City Limits below the Dam.....If you are planning on going up to party, I would suggest you rent a cabin for the night or the weekend....There are several Cabins and even two Apartment style units for rent.
Go up and have a good time...I always did, and make sure you take your better half or good friends along...It is always better to party with friends or your girl friend...Its just something about the Mountain air.
