Commuters who travel the Cajon Pass will lose lanes on southbound Interstate 15 starting Tuesday night, but the big, dreaded weekend closures have been pushed back to Oct. 13.
Unfortunately for Caltrans officials who deal with the public, a pair of Los Angeles television stations reported the closures were to begin this weekend.
"The phones have been ringing off the hook," said Terri Kasinga, a spokeswoman for the agency, which has been dealing with a string of big, complicated and inconvenient road projects.
Aside from the work in Cajon Pass, part of Highway 138 was closed for three months, and Highway 330 between Highland and Running Springs has been shut down with escorts getting commuters through the area during the morning and evening rush hours.
A 10-day lane closure on I-15 gets under way at 11 p.m. Tuesday on the southbound side from Kenwood Avenue to the Interstate 215 split.
